Kayla (a Tonkin Trilogy novella)

While this is a novella, it can be read as a standalone)

I hate life. I really do. This "asylum", as they call it, is a goddamn prison, and nobody can change my mind about that. I mean, they call un inmates; doesn't get much more prison-y than that.
I had friends though. They all called me 'Kayla', which was nice. But I knew that we would never have spoken to each other in the outside world.
My life changed when a group of teenagers from a school that teaches you how to control your Supernatural Abilities came to the asylum on a tour, and they spent the day with the 'passive' inmates.
I met a young man, Kurt Tonkin. He was kind, gentle, creative, empathetic, and a massive target for a man named Zenoir. Little did I know that meeting Kurt Tonkin would drag me into a fight - a war, if you will - that I wanted no part in. But I was threatened with my life to fight. But I had to fight against Kurt Tonkin, the young man who I considered my friend.
I hate life.
